Library System Increases Outreach Efforts and Celebrate Library Card Sign Up Month

Granville County Library System is inviting every resident in Granville County to sign up for a library card and visit their library in September for Library Card Sign Up Month. In Granville County, residents can register for a library account for free, either in person at any library branch or online by submitting an application which will include a follow up with library staff to finish the process. Teachers and county employees who do not live in Granville County also qualify for free library cards.

In addition to an extra push for new library accounts, the library system has begun a dedicated community outreach service for those who cannot easily visit libraries in person. The Board of County Commissioners recently approved funding to transition a part-time library system position to full-time to provide outreach services to all residents and all areas of Granville County. This includes a new service for home delivery of books to homebound or institutionalized residents, book club kits for area book clubs, and pop-up libraries at community events and organizations, and other rural corners of our county. These efforts will increase access and awareness of library services, even for those who do not live close to one of the four branches. Services at pop-up libraries include library account registration or updates, checking out books for all ages, tech assistance, and information about library services.

Upcoming pop-up library events include:

  • September 5: Oxford Armory Farmer’s Market (105 West Spring Street, Oxford)
  • September 9: ACIM Food Bank (634 Roxboro Road, Oxford)
  • September 12: Hot Sauce Festival (Downtown Oxford)
